Eugene Garden Lounge: Winter Reading

It's fairly commonplace to save up a book list in order to spend the relaxing days of summer completely absorbed in the most amazing stories shared by favorite authors. You know, a summer reading list. If you are in agriculture you are very aware that this reality does not exist for our kind. There happens to be zero time for that sort of leisure during the growing season. So, us farmer folk reserve our good reads for the long dark evenings of winter, a winter reading list. Once the chores are complete, the baby is in bed, and the tea has been steeped, there aren't many things better than curling up next to your sweetie and reading a good book. Books are AWESOME, and sometimes get pushed to the wayside by the more flashy storyteller - the TV. So this is a little plea to urge you, whom continue to procrastinate getting past the first 50 pages of that beautiful novel, to pick up that collection of words and let them open your mind. Reading a book is like a workout routine, only for your brain. It has numerous benefits for your intellect, memory retention, understanding of differing cultures, stress level management, awareness of alternative realities, and the depth in which you interact with those around you. So do society a favor, stick it to the man, and read a book!
